Watch Out for These Symptoms of Coronavirus

As the novel coronavirus continues to spread and countries across the globe get gripped by the respiratory disease, it becomes very important for the general public to know about its symptoms. Creating awareness about the deadly disease is the only way to halt the spread. According to WHO, the symptoms of COVID-19 vary greatly and there could be asymptomatic carriers as well. However, the most common symptoms listed by WHO include fever, dry cough and tiredness. Besides these, sore throat, runny nose, diarrhoea, nasal congestion and loss of sense of smell and taste are also some symptoms to watch out for.
As per the studies done so far, about 80% of the patients infected with COVID-19 experience mild symptoms and recover without any special medical treatment. It is the elderly people and those suffering from an ailment (like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problem) or those who have a compromised immune system who are at the greatest risk of getting seriously ill with coronavirus infection. According to the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, there are two specific symptoms that people must also be aware of. These include a very high body temperature and a continuous cough which does not go in a day or two.
It is important to know that as coronavirus is a viral pneumonia, antibiotics are not effective and hence cannot be used in the treatment. The anitiviral drugs that are used against the flu are also of no use. Currently, there is no vaccine, though efforts are in full swing to develop a vaccine as early as possible. So the recovery of the patients infected with coronavirus solely depends on the strength of their immune system.
For those not infected, taking all necessary precautions is the only way to reduce chances of exposure and transmission. Wash hands regularly, cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, use facemask when moving out of the house and seek medical help if you feel you have the symptoms. The medical staff assisting patients in the hospitals should also be equipped with all necessary equipment to ensure good hygiene and sanitization in the hospital premises. All nurses and doctors should wear masks and gloves when dealing with patients. Eco bath wipes must be used for sanitizing bedridden and disabled patients in the hospital. It must also be ensured that all disinfectants, sanitizing solutions, gloves, masks, bath wipes for adults etc. are purchased from reputed brands such as Smart Medical Buyer only to ensure complete protection. Knowing how contagious this virus is, taking precautions is the only way to reduce chances of catching the infection.
