What Happens When Hypertension Is Not Controlled?

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, occurs when the blood requires excessive amount of force to flow through your arteries. It is a silent killer that can quietly damage your body before developing any real symptoms. Damage to your arteries and blood vessels over time is one of the most common problems associated with hypertension. Although it can be controlled by proper medication, the consequences can be fatal if left untreated. There is a direct connection between diabetes and hypertension as most people with diabetes suffer from high blood pressure and other circulatory problems. Hence, keeping your sugar levels in check is vital to avoid hypertension.  It can be done with the help of a glucometer easily at home; get one of the best glucometers in India for accurate monitoring

These are some of the problems that can happen if hypertension is not controlled:-

1      Heart attack or stroke: - Blockage of the arteries under high blood pressure can lead to a life-threatening heart attack or a stroke. It can also cause enlargement of left heart because heart has to work harder to pump blood under high pressure. Coronary heart disease associated with symptoms such as chest pain or irregular heartbeats can also occur as a result of hypertension.

2       Kidney Failure: - Damage caused to the arteries and small blood vessels leading to kidneys due to high blood pressure can lead to kidney damage or kidney failure. This means that the kidney loses its ability to filter out waste from the body, leading to accumulation of harmful waste. Dialysis or kidney transplant might be required under such circumstances. Kidney artery aneurysm associated with bulging of renal artery of kidney can also occur causing internal bleeding.

3     Vision Failure: - Hypertension can impair the blood vessels in your eyes. Blood vessels which are damaged can even burst due to fluid buildup leading to bleeding in the eye. Impaired vision can occur due to swelling up of optic nerve. Permanent vision loss of vision is also a possibility with a serious stroke.

4     Osteoporosis: - The amount of calcium in your urine can get elevated as a result of high blood pressure. This can lead to excessive elimination of calcium from your body causing your bones to lose their density over time. The problem is common especially in elderly women. Osteoporosis can lead to brittle bones.

Sexual problems: - High blood pressure can result in erectile dysfunction in men and low libido in women due to limited blood flow to the sexual organs. It occurs because of the hardening and narrowing of blood vessels. This can further lead to anxiety and depression.

Hence, proper care must be taken to prevent the dire consequences of hypertension, cause it could result in you being bedridden and having to buy ECG machine online.  Monitoring your heart health is essential to avoid heart attacks or strokes. Full body checkup must also be prioritized in case you are suffering from hypertension.
