Vaccinate Your Children Against These Diseases

One of the most important aspects of parenting is to protect one’s child from harmful diseases. This is done by getting the kids vaccinated at different stages of their growth. While some vaccinations are compulsory, some are optional. Since each vaccine targets different diseases, every parent should be aware of the ailments compulsory vaccinations are for.

If you are new to parenting or are expecting, you should be in the know of the following:

Diphtheria

Diptheria is a communicable disease that targets the throat and transmits when the patient coughs or sneezes. A sore throat, high fever, and breathing troubles are symptoms of diphtheria. The doctor would check your child with Littmann pediatric stethoscope to check for any irregularities in the respiratory system. If not diagnosed properly, the disease can become fatal by impairing the heart and the nervous system. The baby should be vaccinated against the disease with DPT vaccination.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a viral disease that affects the liver. Consumption of contaminated food or being in direct contact with an infected person can cause Hepatitis A. The symptoms of the disease vary from no symptoms at all to mild flu-like symptoms. Babies and young children are particularly prone to the viral disease.  Always make sure the injection that is used to inject vaccine is unused. The 30 gauge needle is the most popular needle used since it diffuses the medicines most effectively in an infant.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B like Hepatitis A is a viral disease and causes irritation and inflammation of the liver. The disease is communicable and mainly spreads due to coming in contact with the body fluids of a person suffering from the disease.  Once infected, it might take months for the symptoms to show.  Appetite loss, fatigue, fever, muscle and joint aches, nausea and vomiting, yellow skin, and dark urine are among the early symptoms. Vaccination is the best way to prevent it.

Haemophilus Influenzae Type B (Hib)

This is a bacterial infection which affects the throat, chest, and ear. It can also lead to more serious infections like meningitis and pneumonia or throat blockages (epiglottitis). Vaccinate your child with the Hib vaccine to protect her or him against Haemophilus influenzae Type B (Hib).

Measles

Measles was amongst the most common diseases children suffered from before vaccine to combat the disease was discovered. Advance cases of measles can lead to bronchitis, bronchiolitis, ear infections, croup, and in rare cases, complications to the nervous system (like encephalitis). You can vaccinate your child against measles by either opting for a separate vaccination for measles or the combination vaccine MMR. It will protect your child from measles, mumps, and rubella.

The other diseases you should compulsorily get your children vaccinated against are Mumps, Pertussis (whooping cough), Polio, Rotavirus, Rubella, Tuberculosis, and Typhoid.
